Transforming a $25 Kmart Stool with Chalked Up Furniture Paint

We love breathing new life into everyday items, and our latest project is a perfect example of that. For our very first attempt at a video, we decided on something simple - using our own Chalked Up Furniture Paint to transform a simple $25 Kmart stool into a charming home piece in the gorgeous shade of Paisley Pink.

Here's a step-by-step guide to our process, showcasing the tools and products we used.

Tools and Materials

Getting Started

Before diving into the fun part, it's essential to get everything ready. Here's how we prepared for our stool transformation:

  1. Clean the Stool: We started with a quick clean to ensure the surface was free of dust and grime. This step helps the paint adhere better and provides a smoother finish.

  2. Fill Nail Holes: We used some basic filler to cover any nail holes. Once the filler dried, we lightly sanded it to make sure the surface was even.

Painting Process

First Coat

  • Stir the Paint: Using the paint stirrer, we thoroughly mixed the Chalked Up Furniture Paint to ensure a consistent colour.
  • Apply the First Coat: With the Unipro Round Brush, we applied the first coat of Paisley Pink. It's important to use nice, even strokes to avoid streaks.
  • Dry Time: We allowed the first coat to dry completely. Patience is key here to achieve a smooth and durable finish.

Second Coat

  • Apply the Second Coat: After the first coat dried, we applied the second and final coat. Depending on your preference, you can add a third coat for a more opaque finish.
  • Dry Time: Once again, we let the paint dry thoroughly. This project only required about half of the 120ml bottle of Chalked Up Furniture Paint.

Finishing Touch

Apply Protective Wax

  • Wax Application: To protect the paint and give it a beautiful finish, we used the Mini Wax Bar. We rubbed the wax all over the stool, ensuring even coverage.
  • Buffing: With the lint-free Wax Cloth, we buffed the wax to a subtle sheen. This step not only enhances the look but also adds durability to the finish.

And just like that, our $25 Kmart stool was transformed into a lovely piece with a fresh, vibrant look. The beauty of chalk paint is its ease of use—no extensive prep required, just a bit of creativity and some basic tools.
